In 1663, King Charles II granted the area between Virginia and Spanish Florida to eight noblemen, the Lords Proprietors.
In mid-August of 1669, three ships under the command of Captain West, the Carolina, the Port Royal, and the Albemarle, sailed for the new Carolina province from England, stopping in Barbados on the way. This model is what the ship called the Carolina would have looked like.
